Genres

The word 'Genre' comes from the French word meaning 'sort' or 'kind'. Genre means: A repertoire of elements than an audience expect to see in a media text of a specific genre. Genres are a bit like a recipe, containing certain elements. This is often to referred to as the grammar of text. Beware though, there is a lot of crossover (similar codes used in various genres) between genres and also hybrid genres (mixture of more than one genre).
